IVF Coaching, How can it help me?
When I meet people for the first time I lead with one question that generally takes them by surprise – when was the last time that you did something for the first time?
For the most part, everyone I meet struggles to answer this question. Why, because we are on autopilot for most of our lives, we are creatures of habit and routine, operating unconsciously. It is only when you do something new, take a different path, learn a new skill, it is only then, that you truly extend yourself and experience growth.
So let’s talk about Mindset, what exactly does that mean? Are we talking Fixed and Growth Mindset? Are we talking positive and negative thinking? More importantly how can you change your mindset and what benefit will this have on fertility treatment?
Can you remember the last time someone asked you what was wrong? When you are feeling angry, stressed, anxious or worried, your whole body changes, your posture and your energy. The reality is that you have not even said a word to the other person, you don’t have to, as a large percentage of communication is non-verbal. The emotions you feel are powerful enough to effect your body and for others to see.
Negative emotions that we feel routinely build up over time and it is this build up that causes angst and can reduce your chances of a successful cycle outcome. Holding on to negative emotions is just something people do unconsciously, if you have been trying to conceive for some time, these emotions of fear, anxiety, uncertainty, hopelessness and sadness are expected. For male factor cases where the sperm is an issue, men can often feel ashamed, disempowered and emasculated.
We know from the study of neuroscience and observing brain image scans that when we experience emotions, there is an electrical charge, a neural energy that is seen in different areas of the brain. What this shows is that at a cellular level, your emotions are creating changes in your brain and body.
In order to change your mindset, you need to start by changing your daily routine. This interruption to the habit loop will allow you to learn new behaviours and instigate growth. In terms of your fertility treatment, no matter what happens you will be able handle the challenge and move forward with confidence.
The human brain is powerful beyond our comprehension. At the unconscious level it is responsible for so many functions that we simply take for granted. Breathing, blood circulation, hormone regulation, sperm production, recruiting follicles to mature eggs, ovulation – multiple functions simultaneously and for the most part flawlessly.
So let us consider the diagram below – when you think about needing IVF for example and start to worry – you have the things that you think might happen, the things that actually can happen and the smallest grey circle being the things that actually do happen!
Coaching will help you eliminate negative emotions from their root cause and remove limiting beliefs, this will allow you to change your mindset.
Getting rid of negative emotions is the most powerful change you can make for optimal mind/body health and improving your fertility mindset.
How do you know that you still have that feeling? If you step back into that moment and memory and you can still remember the emotion, hurt, anger, sadness, fear or guilt – then you have not released that emotion.
This is common and no matter what age you are, you will be able to release the negative emotions that you have stored in your mind and thereby create space. Clients who undergo Time Line Therapy ™ report feeling lighter after the experience, almost as though someone has taken the weight from their shoulders, it is that profound!
Our health suffers as a consequence of our negative emotions. When they build up to certain level, we will see conditions starting to manifest in our bodies as a response. Stress levels build up like toxins in our body and then we will see anxiety, ulcers, heart palpitations, high blood pressure, weight gain, infections etc. The effects are as varied as the individuals that suffer the consequences.
In animals the fight or flight response is instinctive, for survival, however humans can ‘worry’ about a possible future event and create exactly the same body chemistry internally as if they were in danger!
This ability to switch on the stress response and keep it switched on also has negative health consequences – increased heart rate, rapid breathing, release of cortisol and adrenaline – when there is nothing to run from, you can be stressed about things that have not yet happened and produce an internal body chemistry accordingly – at will. This response does not create the optimal environment to achieve pregnancy.
Our bodies are extremely reactive to our emotions, of this we are certain.
Therefore it makes sense that when you are looking for optimal fertility outcomes, you have a good clear out of negative emotions, to give both your mind and body the best chance of success.
